What is ecommerce SEO?
A plain explanation, and what Google says about online stores.
Ecommerce SEO is the work of making an online store’s category and product pages appear in Google when people search for what the store sells.
A store is not like a normal website. It can have thousands of pages, products that go in and out of stock, and filters that create endless URL combinations. Google publishes specific guidance for online stores, and three points from it shape our work:
Google says navigation and internal links help it understand which pages on a store are most important. Your main categories should be easy to reach.
Google advises using the same URL consistently in links, sitemaps and canonical tags, and keeping duplicate URLs from variants and parameters to a minimum.
Product structured data lets Google show price, availability, ratings, shipping and returns. Google decides when to show them, so nobody can promise it. This is part of our technical SEO work.

Which store pages rank for which searches
Each page type has its own job. Mixing them up is one of the most common reasons stores do not rank.
| Page type | Searches it should answer | What we work on |
|---|---|---|
| Category pages | Broad product searches, such as “men’s running shoes” | Titles, intro text, filters, internal links and product order |
| Product pages | Specific searches, such as a brand and model name | Unique descriptions, images, specifications and product schema |
| Brand pages | Searches for a brand you stock | Clear brand pages that link to the right categories |
| Guides and blog | Questions before buying, such as “how to choose” | Helpful content that links to categories and products |
| Home page | Your store name and main product types | Clear links to your most important categories |
Ecommerce SEO done properly
Stores are easy to damage with shortcuts. This is how we keep the work safe and lasting.
What we do
- Write unique category and product text for your store
- Keep one main URL for each product and category
- Mark up only the prices, stock and reviews that are really on the page
- Keep seasonal and returning products live with correct availability
- Agree simple rules your team can follow for new and removed products
What we will not do
- Copy supplier descriptions used by every other seller
- Let filters create thousands of indexed duplicate pages
- Add fake reviews or ratings to structured data
- Delete product pages without a redirect or a plan
- Promise star ratings or prices in Google results

What is ecommerce SEO?
Ecommerce SEO is the work of making an online store's category and product pages appear in Google when people search for what the store sells. It covers store structure, category and product content, product structured data, site speed and the technical issues that are common on stores, such as duplicate URLs from filters and variants.
Which pages matter most for an online store, category pages or product pages?
Both, but for different searches. Category pages usually match broad searches such as running shoes for men, while product pages match searches for a specific model or brand. We research which searches belong to which page type and then improve both.
Which ecommerce platforms do you work with?
We work with Salla, Shopify and WooCommerce on WordPress. Each platform has different limits on URLs, schema and page speed, so the first step is always an audit of your own store. If your store runs on another platform, tell us and we will let you know honestly whether we can help.
Can you guarantee that my products will show prices and star ratings in Google?
No. Product structured data makes your pages eligible for these extras, but Google states that they are shown at its own discretion. We add correct, complete structured data and fix errors so your store has the best chance, and we never mark up reviews that are not really on the page.
How do you handle out-of-stock and discontinued products?
It depends on the case. A product that will return usually stays live with its availability updated, so it keeps its ranking. A product that is gone for good is redirected to the closest alternative or its category, or removed properly. We agree simple rules with you so your team can follow them without us.
Do filters and product variants cause SEO problems?
They can. Filters for size, colour and price can create thousands of near-identical URLs that waste Google's crawling and dilute your rankings. Google's guidance is to use consistent URLs and canonical tags that point to the main version. We set which filter and variant pages should be indexed and which should not.
Do I need Arabic product and category pages?
If your customers search in Arabic, yes. Arabic searches are mostly answered with Arabic pages, so an English-only store misses them. We research Arabic keywords, write Arabic category and product content, and link the Arabic and English versions correctly so Google shows the right one.
Is ecommerce SEO different from Google Shopping ads?
Yes. Shopping ads are paid, and you are charged for clicks. Ecommerce SEO improves your unpaid results, where clicks cost nothing. The two work well together, because the same accurate product data helps both, but this service covers the unpaid side.
How long does ecommerce SEO take to show results?
It depends on the size of your store, its current technical health and how competitive your products are. Technical fixes can be picked up within weeks, while building category rankings is steady work over several months. After the free audit we tell you what is realistic for your store.
How much does ecommerce SEO cost?
The cost depends on how many categories and products you have, how many languages you sell in and how much technical work the platform needs. We start with a free audit, then send a written scope and price so you know exactly what is included before you decide.
